Arthur Birthday Party Cake
My son is a big Arthur fan, so for his birthday I wanted to give him an Arthur birthday party. We didn't go all out; we just got a themed tablecloth, candle, "blowers" and little goody bags, but the piece de resistance was my homemade Arthur cake. Here are the instructions for it:
Arthur Birthday Cake
Ingredients:
One box cake mix, your choice of flavors
One can of vanilla frosting
One can of chocolate frosting
Red food coloring
Piping bag or a Ziploc with snipped corner
Bake the cake according to directions in two circular pans. Save out enough to make two cupcakes, also. Let cool.
While the cake is cooling, you need need to set aside about 4 tablespoons of the vanilla frosting about two of the chocolate. Then mix the vanilla and the chocolate to make a lighter brown color. (You will have a lot left over when you're finished.)
Now, assemble the cake layers with frosting in between. If you want to make the face shape a little truer to Arthur's real shape, you'll want to trim the face into an oval. (I actually had to make mine in square pans, so I had to trim mine!) Then place the two cupcakes at the top of the cake where ears should be. Frost the entire outside of the cake, blending the ears into the head as well as you can.
Now, take the chocolate frosting that you set aside and put it in a piping bag or a Ziploc with the corner snipped off. Pipe into place the outline of the inner portion of Arthur's ears, Arthur's glasses, his nose and his mouth. Now take a small spoon and fill in his glasses with vanilla frosting. After the vanilla is down, then place a dot of chocolate frosting for each eye. Now add a drop or two of red food coloring to what's left of the vanilla to make a light pink. This will fill in the inner portion of the ears. If you're ever in doubt, just check a picture to be sure you're doing it right.
I think your little Arthur lovers will love it as much as my son did!
